Integrating GPS Tracking and Route Optimization for a Canadian Moving Company
▶ Industry: Moving & Relocation Services
▶ Location: Canada
▶ Scope: A web dashboard built by integrating a third-party GPS tracking service and a third-party route optimization service via API
▶ Fospertise service engaged: Real-Time Tracking & Complex System Integrations - Multi-Party Integration Orchestration

The Challenge
This moving company already had access to two capable pieces of the puzzle: a GPS tracking service that could tell them where a truck was, and a route optimization service that could tell them what route it should be following. What they didn't have was a single place to see both at once.
Dispatch was working across two separate vendor systems - logging into one portal to check live vehicle location, and another to check the planned route for that vehicle - with no way to see them side by side. That meant no quick way to answer the question that actually matters for a moving company: is this truck where it's supposed to be on the route it was given? Cross-referencing the two manually was slow, error-prone, and not something dispatch could do in real time while juggling multiple trucks on the road.
The result was a visibility gap sitting between two systems that individually worked fine. Route deviations were noticed late, if at all. Customer service couldn't give confident, current ETAs without dispatch first manually checking both systems. And as the fleet grew, the manual cross-referencing didn't scale.
Why They Chose Fospertise
The client didn't need another standalone tracking or routing tool - they already had both. What they needed was an integration partner who could bring two independent third-party services together into one coherent, real-time view, reliably and without dispatch having to do the reconciliation by hand.
Fospertise's experience connecting multiple real-time systems into a single operational picture - the same discipline applied across transport and logistics integrations generally - meant the engagement focused on the integration architecture from day one: how to pull live data from two external APIs, merge it meaningfully, and present it as one dashboard rather than two windows open side by side.
The Solution
Fospertise built a web dashboard that integrates directly with both third-party services via API:
GPS Tracking Integration
Pulling live vehicle location data from the tracking provider's API in real time, rather than dispatch checking a separate portal.
Route Optimization Integration
Pulling each vehicle's planned, optimized route from the routing provider's API.
Unified Live View
Displaying current vehicle position against its planned route on a single map, so dispatch can see at a glance whether a truck is tracking to plan or has drifted from it.
Real-Time Updates
Location and route data refresh continuously, so the dashboard reflects what's actually happening on the road, not a snapshot from several minutes ago.
Reliable API Handling
Built-in handling for rate limits, retries, and temporary outages on either third-party service, so a brief disruption upstream doesn't silently break dispatch's visibility.
The result is a single internal tool that sits on top of both vendor services, giving dispatch one place to work instead of two.
The Results
65%
Reduction in time dispatch spends cross-referencing tracking and route data
60%
Faster identification of route deviations, before they affect downstream delivery windows
No delays
Customer service able to confirm ETAs without waiting on manual dispatch look-ups
22%
Fully scalable without added manual overhead
"We had the tracking data and we had the route data, we just never had them in the same place at the same time. Now dispatch looks at one screen and knows immediately if a truck needs attention. Thanks, Fospertise team. You did a great job!"
